| Sumario: | The objective of this study was the census of the collectors of recyclable materials, organized in cooperatives in Natal, considering socioeconomic, demographic and health aspects, as well as the perception of these workers about this job and the risks associated with it. An instrument consisting of objective and discursive items was applied to 70 active waste collectors in 2012, which corresponds to a census. This was done with prior approval of the directors of each cooperative, and the agreement of each respondent, whosigned a consent document.
