Louise Labé no Brasil, tradução e retradução : estudo e análise de três sonetos

This thesis presents an analysis of poetic translations of the sonnets II, III and XVIII written by the 16th century Lyonnais poet Louise Labé (1522? 1560), which were translated into Brazilian Portuguese by Felipe Fortuna (1995), Sérgio Duarte (1999) and Mário Laranjeira (2004). Sumario:This thesis presents an analysis of poetic translations of the sonnets II, III and XVIII written by the 16th century Lyonnais poet Louise Labé (1522? 1560), which were translated into Brazilian Portuguese by Felipe Fortuna (1995), Sérgio Duarte (1999) and Mário Laranjeira (2004). The study of those translations is based on the theoretical and methodological postulates of Berman (1995), Paulo Henriques Britto (2017) and Mário Laranjeira (2003). Berman's approach guide our methodological stance – especially in identifying the paratextual conditioning factors surrounding the translation, such as: the project and the translation horizon – and the presentation of our analyses, in which we strive for clarity, reflexivity, digression and commentary. Our theoretical basis for the specific considerations of the corpus is based on the principles of “Correspondence” and “Significance” established respectively by Britto (2017) and Mário Laranjeira (2003). These criteria will be addressed through a comparative approach between the source text and its translations (retranslations). This major question driving this study is: How have the aesthetic elements of Labean poetry been worked on by the translators in their respective translation projects? Reflection on translations triggers the need for discussions on other themes that orbit around the corpus, such as: a) contextualization – covering the Renaissance and identifying the aesthetic characteristics of the poet's writing, which will be considered especially from the observations of: Cochard (1824), Breghot (1824), Lazard (1985) Arnold Hauser (1998), Perry (1999), Selosse (2007), Pradas (2007), Motta (2014), PeteyGirard (2023); b) poetic translation and retranslation, in which we problematize the conceptual particularities of literary translation and retranslation, taking as a parameter the contributions of: Paes (1990), Berman (1990), Guerini (2000), Benjamin (2008), Milton (2010), Monti (2011), Venuti (2013); c) the reception of the poet Labé in Brazil, the first evidence of which was consulted in the Hemeroteca Digital of the National Library of Brazil (2023). This research also highlights the importance of Louise Labé's work in literature written by women, where her discourse is revolutionary as well as literary. With our analysis, we concluded that all translators – Felipe Fortuna, Sérgio Duarte and Mário Laranjeira – showed a high degree of “Correspondence” in terms of semantic aspects; regarding rhetoricalformal and linguisticstructural aspects, Felipe Fortuna and Mário Laranjeira’s translations are similar in that they show more “Correspondence” with the original’s lyrics. Therefore, each translation expresses, in a particular way, the “Significance” of the source text.
