Descripción
Sumario:After reviewing the Aristotelian rejection of the Platonic participation in the world of Ideas and certain uses of the notion of participation of a logical and metaphysical nature, this study focuses on Nicomachean Ethics A 13, which presents a different kind of participation, distinguished by an explicit and insistent use of the participation vocabulary, with a precise and constant meaning. It is a real participation, insofar as the soul’s appetitive potencies participate in a perfection that is proper to rationality, thanks to which it may be conformed to a higher order, with a type of autonomy that exceeds the one of the body with respect to the soul, and to varying degrees.
