Descripción
Sumario:The mix between public interest topics and private agendas were hallmarks of Jair Bolsonaro’s mandate, elected president of Brazil in 2018. The objective of this article is to verify the space occupied by the main topics of public interest in relation to the main agendas related to the private sphere in Bolsonaro’s Instagram profile posts from January 2019 to June 2020. The research analyzed the presence of public and private themes from concepts about public communication and public interest, based on Weber (2017), Esteves (2011), and Gomes and Maia (2008), and democracy, based on Dahl (2001), Bobbio (2007), and Roisanvallon (2020). The results showed that the president allocates more space to agendas belonging to the private sphere than to topics of public interest and, also, permeates relevant topics for society with private positions, which distorts public communication and obstructs its basic concepts.
