| Sumario: | In water supply systems equipped with a pumping mechanism, variable speed pumps (VSP) have been commonly used as an alternative to reduce energy costs. Through the variation in speed, a pump changes its operating conditions, starting to work under new values of flow, gauge and performance. The present work aims to perform an analysis of the accuracy of two existing equations to estimate the efficiency of a VSP: the Sârbu and Borza Equation and the Comolet Equation, thus proposing a new equation for the same purpose, called the Costa e Castro Equation. To evaluate the accuracy of the mentioned equations, the catalogs of fifty previously selected pumps were taken and in each of them three tests were performed in which the speed was reduced to 90%, 80% and 70% of the nominal speed. The results of the tests indicated lower values of errors in the yield estimates by the equation now proposed in relation to the aforementioned predecessor equations. |
