description Influenced by philosophers such as Hegel, Marx and Heidegger, Herbert Marcuse is considered one of the representatives of Critical Theory of the twentieth century. Through the formulation of a critical social theory, he sought to understand the social conditions of his time with regard to culture, anthropology, technology, work, capitalism, totalitarianism, and other related topics. In order to understand its theoretical position regarding the philosophical problems of technology, this article in which data collectionis essentially bibliographic initially rescues the marcusean placement, punctuating the analysis, the influences and the main conclusion s of Marcuse about the exposed technologies in his major written works between 1941 and 1964. Armed with this characterization, this article is intended to deepen the political and critical sense of their thinking about technology, especially with regard to the category of political use of technology, technological rationality, the one-dimensionality and emancipation. Finally, it is analyzed the Marcuse critique of technology and its importance for the present, considering the current manifestations of globalization and the information society. Thus, it is concluded with the main perspectives that marcusean thought can point toward a qualitative transformation of the human condition at the present time

Através da formulação de uma teoria social crítica, ele buscou compreender, as condições sociais de seu tempo no que diz respeito à cultura, à antropologia, à tecnologia, ao trabalho, ao capitalismo, ao totalitarismo, entre outros temas afins. Com o objetivo de compreender seu posicionamento teórico a respeito dos problemas filosóficos da tecnologia, este trabalho, cuja coleta de dados é essencialmente bibliográfica, resgata inicialmente o posicionamento marcuseano, pontuando as análises, as influências e as principais conclusões de Marcuse acerca da tecnologia expostas em suas principais obras escritas entre os anos de 1941 a 1964. De posse desta caracterização, pretende-se aprofundar o sentido político e crítico de seu pensamento acerca da tecnologia, sobretudo, no que diz respeito à categoria do uso político da tecnologia, da racionalidade tecnológica, da unidimensionalidade e da emancipação.
