| Resumo: | The international protection of human rights was regionalized through the establishment of agencies and mechanisms that ensure its effectiveness; on the American continent, the Inter-American Human Rights System (IAHRS) has this function. The IAHRS includes two independent and complementary agencies: the Commission and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. This article analyzes the importance of the Court’s work in promoting, protecting and guaranteeing Human Rights in Brazil, based on an exploratory study of the sentences given to the country, observing the nature of the reparation measures applied as well as its fulfillment. In short, we observe that the Inter-American Court, as a monitoring mechanism, fulfills its final purpose acting in the protection of Human Rights and commanding the States to provide clarifications about the fulfillment of the sentences in which they were condemned. As such, the condemnations to the Brazilian State catalyze actions and cause repercussions internally, even when they are not fully complied. |
