Sumario:Objective: analyzing the scientific evidence about the frequency of checking items on the Surgical Safety Checklist in Brazilian hospitals. Methods: integrative review. The databases used: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieve System Online, Spanish Librarian Index of Health Sciences, Nursing Database, National Medical Sciences Information Center of Cuba, Cochrane Library and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature. The search occurred in January 2018, combining the descriptors: patient safety, surgical centers, surgical rooms, operative surgical procedures and checklist. Results: in spite of the great variation of the frequency of the items checking, the majority presented low gauging, with an average lower than 80.0%. The best verification was observed in the first stage of the instrument. Conclusion : the frequency of the checking was unsatisfactory, evincing the need for improvements, based on the safety culture of the surgical patient.
