| Summary: | This paper is a critical reflection over the implications of flexible cumulative regime, which is the contemporary stage of monopolist capitalism, over Journalism as a cultural industry product. In order to achieve this goal, the changing process in communication conglomerates, inherent to the transition from fordism to post-fordism, is discussed. Next, changes in the mode of production and work organization are analyzed, specially those new skills and competences needed by the professional journalists in corporations on their way to become multimedia organizations. Next, the timing comprehension of production routines is analyzed, particularly that of “deadline”. As empirical object for this study, the Zero Hora newspaper was chosen, ZH is an affiliate to Rede Brasil Sul de Comunicação from Porto Alegre, Brazil. The prevailing theoretical perspective is that of Political Economy of Communications. The method includes a thorough bibliographical review, intensive interviews, and systematic and participative observations. |
