Ubiratan Macedo's hypothesis that, with the exception of Frei Firmino de Centelhas, all these philosophers condemned slavery is not only confirmed, but also detailed through the presentation of each of their contributions. The main nineteenth-century Brazilian philosophers are divided into two groups and their discussions on slavery, as well as their eventual proposals to extinguish it, are exposed and evaluated. The aim of the article is to present a general overview of the discussions on the issue of slavery by the main Brazilian philosophers of the 19th century, thus offering a more detailed picture of their work in this field.   Keywords: slavery, nineteenth century Brazilian philosophy, abolition, emancipationism
