Resumo:Research in recent years points to the rise of palliative care around the world, highlighting the limitations of traditional curative medicine. Currently, efforts are being made to ensure the quality of life of those facing life-threatening illnesses, but Brazil is still ranks among the worst countries in the world to die. The interest in the subject arose from the experience as a social worker in the multiprofessional residency program in adult and elderly health at the Federal University of Alagoas. The study aims to analyze the knowledge produced by Social Work in relation to the area of palliative care in Brazil and its interlocution with the document Parameters for the Performance of Social Workers in Health Policy. This is a qualitative, exploratory and bibliographical review study. For the discussion, a critical analysis was carried out, identifying coherence between the performance of social workers in palliative care and the document that has based professional practice, except for the axis of social participation, which was the least cited in the publications, signaling for a low performance of social workers in the space of social control. On the other hand, in the area of professional training axis, the authors were unanimous regarding the need for training in social work focused on palliative care, considering the little knowledge of social workers regarding the theme.
