Sumario:Objective: The aim was to investigate in the scientific literature how aromatherapy is used in nursing care practice. Method: Integrative literature review with the following guiding question: How is aromatherapy used in nursing care practice? The survey of publications occurred between March and April 2020 in the databases BDENF, LILACS and MEDLINE. Results: After reading and analyzing the articles, 16 articles were included in final sample of this review. Data were analyzed using thematic categories. The analysis grouped the study into three categories: Aromatherapy used in pain relief; Aromatherapy used in palliative cancer care; and Aromatherapy as a therapeutic resource in mental health. Conclusion: The synthesis of the evidence found strengthens the practice of aromatherapy within nursing as an intervention for the comprehensive care of clients, consolidating the National Policy of Integrative and Complementary Practices in the Brazilian National Health System.
