Resumo:The research arises after the identification of the lack of knowledge of the impact generated by the use of new information technologies and the Internet in high school students of the Abdón Calderón Educational Unit in the Milagro canton, province of Guayas, in Ecuador. Thus, the objective is to analyze the use of information and communication technologies in the teaching process as a strategy for the development of virtual classes. For this, a qualitative-quantitative inquiry was proposed as a research methodology. The quantitative analysis was carried out through surveys addressed to 150 students, 15 educators and 5 managers, while the qualitative analysis was based on the observation of the events, that is, how the educators taught the virtual classes. The results showed that students have low knowledge of ICTs in favor of their education but recognize its importance in the training process, while students assume they do not adequately know the platforms to teach virtual classes and mention the lack of training they receive in this regard. It was also observed that teachers do not motivate students and are not interested in achieving an understanding of the content through the use of digital tools.
