Descripción
Sumario:The present study aimed to synthesize the information contained in the literature on the relationship between aromatherapy and allergic processes, verifying the behaviors adopted in this scenario. An Integrative Literature Review (ILR) was carried out, which followed the fulfillment of 6 steps for the synthesis of knowledge, with the studies obtained from databases and virtual libraries, respectively: Web of Science (WOS), PubMed and Virtual Library in Health (BVS). The descriptors used are in DeCS/MeSH, articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish published between 2002 and 2022 with free access were filtered. A total of 733 articles were obtained, but after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria and reading them in full, only 6 were eligible to compose this ILR, all of them of international origin in the english language. The use of aromatherapy must be done carefully due to the allergic processes that can develop, among them Allergic Contact Dermatitis (ACD), being the main allergic manifestation observed from the use of highly concentrated essential oils (EOs) and direct application in the skin. Therefore, the handling of EOs in aromatherapy must be done with highly diluted oils, under protection of the hands and the origin, components and conservation of the oils must be verified to avoid the oxidation process, which is a sensitizer of EOs.
