Descripción
Sumario:This research studies the syncope in words with antepenultimate syllable stress, throught the prism of variationist sociolinguistics, the Linguistic Atlas Project data from Brasil (ALiB). This process, which is the reduction phonics by loss of one or more segments in post-tonic syllable, originated in Vulgar Latin and remains alive today in Brasilian Portuguese. With the aim of verifying the performance of social factors on the phenomenon analyzed were controlled, in this paper, the variables gender, age, education and location. The sample consists of two hundred informants, from the twenty-five capitals AliB. It was found that schooling is the variable that has the most influence on the reduction of words with antepenultimate syllable stress.
