| Sumario: | In the present paper highlights some of the challenges faced by the Portuguese-Speaking African Countries (PALOPs) in consolidating Sociology as a relevant field of knowledge, whether at the university or school level. To do so, we will draw on some of the scarce literature on the subject, as well as interviews with African educators and students. In these young countries, the university and this field of knowledge are new and lack institutional support. The lack of investment from the state, the precarious infrastructure, the difficulty of academic cooperation, and linguistic barriers further hinder the process. It is important to seek synergy among the countries, with exchanges of experience and international cooperation – including with Brazil – and also among educators and students in the struggle for the discipline. |
