| Sumario: | This practical report describes selection criteria and the assessment process for the Cultura Viva Award. Brazil's Ministry of Culture launched the Award in late 2005, with the intention of providing visibility to the size and diversity of the cultural practices that are alive in every corner of the country. Given the variability of subjects and proposals, in addition to considering regional diversity and the presence of informal groups, flexibility was needed during the entire selection process. The report concludes that assessment focused on pertinence, consistency, coherence, legitimacy and social importance of the initiative, gauging its relevance and beauty as an expression of identity and belonging to the community. Culture is belonging and, therefore, acquires the color and identity of the communities. |
