Resumo:Introduction: The world prevalence of MS introduce between 20-25%, but quite variable by the diagnostic criteria used (Lancet, 2005 e Pereira e colaboradores, 2002). But there are any regional studies as by por Lerário e colaboradores (2002) that obtained a sample of 530 nipobrasileiros that resulted in a prevalence population of 21%. The study realize by Salaroli, Barbosa, Mill e Molina (2007), in Vitória, Espírito Santo using the criteria of NCEP-ATP III that resulted in a prevalence population 29,8%. Objetive: Realize a rewien study of the prevalence of MS and check criteria used to determine diagnostics. Literature Rewien: The studies used NCEP-ATP III criteria the prevalence of MS is particularly related to women. Who used the methodology of the NCEP-ATP III and IDF concomitant showed statistically significant differences in the prevalence. The study utilized AHA/NHBI by the Raychaudhuri and colleagues (2009), showed a increased prevalence of MS in patients showed cardiovascular diseases, predominantly in males. Conclusion: Seconde this rewien that the female population showed the highest prevalence in developing of MS, that the reference of NCEP-ATP IIIis frequently in studies of criteria for diagnostics of the syndrome.
