Descripción
Sumario:This study aims to map the rural poverty in Brazil under a multidimensional perspective in the year 2009. Thus, it was elaborated a multidimensional measurement capable of ranking the Brazilian states according the degree of rural poverty, as well as identifying the attributes which contributed the most to the problem. The fuzzy technique and a relative weighting were used to build the poverty index. The results confirm that the rural areas in the states of the North and Northeastern regions reached the highest level of poverty. When using the weights and onedimensional index, they shows that for 25 out of 27 states, owning stove and radio or TV are indicators of higher weight and, therefore, it demonstrates lower relative deprivation of these goods and services by rural households. The occupation and knowledge status proved to be the attributes of greatest contribution to the multidimensional index.
