| Resumo: | A disorder resulting from iron overload in the tissues, hemochromatosis represents the clinical manifestation of different consequences for the organism, such as heart failure, diabetes mellitus, and liver cirrhosis. Given the infectious complications to which individuals with iron overload are exposed, the present study aimed, based on a literature review, to compile information on hemochromatosis and its association with infection by Vibrio vulnificus. Thus, it was observed that excess iron plays a key role in the pathogenesis of this bacteria. The data reinforced the importance of an early diagnosis and treatment, in addition to actions aimed at clarifying the target populations regarding the ingestion of undercooked seafood and exposure of skin wounds to contaminated seawater. |
