Descrição
Resumo:Sexuality involves a complex process of discoveries that is directly related to sexual, reproductive, and mental health. Access to sexual education is fundamental for Youth and Adult Education (YAE), marked by age diversity and social vulnerability. This study assessed the knowledge about sexuality and sexual behavior of YAE students. It is an observational, quantitative, and analytical research, which used SPSS/25, considering p<0.05, and non-parametric tests Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, and Chi-square. A total of 189 YAE students from Imperatriz-MA participated in the research, with the application of the evaluation questionnaire. Students are more likely to use male condoms. In the first sexual experience, the majority did not use condoms, and there is a correlation between this initial lack of prevention and the tendency not to use them in subsequent experiences. The male gender presents less knowledge about sexuality, especially regarding pregnancy prevention. Unemployed individuals have a more limited understanding of sexuality. Risky sexual behavior is more prevalent among students with less knowledge about sexuality. It is recommended to conduct specific studies on sexuality in the YAE population for a better understanding of the health impacts of this group.
