Descripción
Sumario:This essay aims to identify and analyze the supernatural elements present in the short story The mass of shadows – La Messe des Ombres (1892), by Anatole France. The facts unfold around a ring that symbolizes the love between two people, a feeling that transcends life and is consumed in an intriguing way, giving a mysterious ending to the tale and the couple’s story. Substantial theoretical bases are from Selma Calasans Rodrigues in her work The fantastic (1988), and of Tzvetan Todorov in his work Introduction to fantastic literature (1975). This work presentes, in an elucidative way, the arrangement of these supernatural elements, in addition to the symbolism represented by this ring, which is marked by love and mystery.
