Sumario:This paper analyzes the debate that took place in the legislative session that approved the National Truth Commission law, showing the public and political uses of the past, as well as multiple articulations and temporal dimensions that coexist when focusing on the civil-military Brazilian dictatorship. Part of a larger study, this analysis shows the difference between the "time of the vanquished" and the "time of the victor" and how these different temporal conceptions influence the development of politics of memory and transitional justice.
