Resumo:Based on reports of indigenous Cocama and documents consulted in the Prelature of Tefé, I discuss experiences of displacement and violations of indigenous and non-indigenous rights in the Upper Rio Solimões region in the beginning of the 20th century. This context is marked by the intense exploitation of indigenous and non-indigenous labor and of natural resources, within the configuration of rubber plantations and its system of aviamento and patronage. The era also experienced territorial disputes, such as the episode of “Letícia’s Question”, which had tragic consequences for the Indians living on the triple border of Brazil, Peru and Colombia.
