| Sumario: | Health in Brazil is always more evident in times of health crises caused by pandemic processes, such as the Bubonic Plague in the 14th century, the Spanish Flu in the 20th century and recently Covid19. From another perspective, the constitution of the so-called Global Value Chains (GVCs) is seen as the result of the transformations that have been occurring in production systems and international trade in recent decades. These have changed the world economy with the fragmentation of production, the restructuring of the capitalist mode of production and a new international division of labor. In view of the above, the research question is: what are the prospects for health in Brazil, given the emergence of GVCs? The objective is to analyze the prospects for health in Brazil, aiming to understand its importance for economic development in the context of emerging changes in the structure of world trade, the international fragmentation of production and the advent of Global Value Chains (GVCs). Methodologically, a qualitative approach of exploratory and descriptive nature was used, and the data and information were collected through a bibliographic review. It is concluded that the health sector, characterized by the internationalization of production, intensive in science and technology, has a high level of innovation and research, and is considered a key area in industrial policy with the potential to promote economic development. |
