Sumario:Strongyloides stercoralis is mainly an intestinal parasite. The complicated formsmay evolve to a disseminated form, especially if the patient is in prolonged therapywith corticoids, other immunosuppressant drugs, or radiotherapy. Here we describethe case of a female, 16 years old, from Amazonas State, Brazil, diagnosed withautoimmune hemolytic anemia since August/2005. None of her stool examinationswere positive for Strongyloides stercoralis, being detected only in sputum. She startedtreatment with thiabendazole, however her clinical state worsen and she died. We recommend the importance of complementary exams, such as stool examination, before starting any chemotherapeutic treatment for hemolytic anemia.
