Sumario:This article offers an essay on the Hong Kong Umbrella Movement as a social movement, written on the basis of bibliographic research. In the first part, geopolitical and local conditions are analyzed, with special attention to institutional conditions. In second we summarizes the background of the social movements in Hong Kong. Third presents the dynamics of the movement in 2014, as well as some analytical elements of the social sciences on the Umbrella Movement. In conclusions review the subsequent mobilization and counter-mobilization events in the city and reflect on possible similarities between these experiences with other past and contemporary experiences in Latin America.
