Sumario:This study analyzes the political discourse in Fernando Brants texts published by Estado de Minas newspaper from January 2001 to July 2006. The main objective of this work is to identify Brants points-of-view, by analyzing the linguistic aspects on his texts. In our research we assume that the discourse is composed by two interdependent andcomplementary levels: the interdiscursive and the intradiscursive levels. This research aims to study the relationship between these levels. The first step was the identification of the semantic paths on the intradiscourse the set of texts that integrate the corpus of this study. We have adopted the semantic path concept by taking into account the linkage of figures and/or themes and the recurrence of underlyingdiscursive elements. On the analyzed set of texts the intradiscursive level is composed by the semantic paths of the public spirit, the history, the freedom and the culture. In these semantic paths we can identify the underlying distinctive elements which are, respectively, /group responsibility/, /permanence/, / autonomy/ and /knowledge/. The underlying distinctive element at each semantic path, in the intradiscursive level, establishes constituted oppositions in the interdiscourse that is formed by other political discourses opposed by Fernando Brants one and that is located in the inner part of thepolitical discourse field. At the end, we concluded that the studied texts present a discourse favorable to the practice of the public spirit, the freedom, the culture and the preservation of history, and unfavorable to those that omits or are positioned against these aspects.
