Sumario:The use and mention of visual, literary and poetic works of art in school geography teaching materials have increasingly grown, but in a way that restricts them to illustrative instruments or mere thematic references. The question is, how can this interface in geography lessons be explored further than this pictorial and/or topic approach? A twist that can overcome such reductions is to pursue the appreciation of the aesthetic dimension in teaching geography, precisely that which allows art and geography to align. In fact, the aesthetic dimension is often forgotten or neglected within geography itself as both a science and an educational field. However, art is part of social subjects’ everyday life and sensitive and imaginative universe. This study seeks to make its importance evident in the teaching of geography and, at the same time, explore a broader sense for the use of its various languages as resources to be mediated by the teachers so that students can exercise their geographical imagination.
