Description
Summary:In this paper, a high power factor rectifier based on boost topology without current control loop is studied. It uses two active switches that operate complementarily, and it is designed to have one inductor in continuous conduction mode, and the other in discontinuous conduction mode. This arrangement produce an input current that follows the grid voltage waveform without the need of a current control loop, achieving high power factor and low total harmonic distortion of the current drawn from the grid. A frequency-modulation control strategy ensures output voltage regulation under load variations. These characteristics make this converter a viable alternative to controlled rectifiers used in power factor correction. In this paper the theoretical analysis, a simplified design example, and the experimental results for a 1-kW prototype are presented. The prototype is designed to have a rms input voltage of 127 V at 60Hz frequency, an output voltage of 400 V, and a nominal switching frequency of 30 kHz.
