Sumario:Traditionally, in linguistic literature, stative verbs have received distinct analyses. On one hand, there are authors who analyze these verbs as primitive semantic elements and as a uniform verb class. On the other hand, there are authors who identify compositionality in these items, considering that they are distributed among different verb classes. In this paper, we present a study of Brazilian Portuguese stative verbs, aiming at showing that these verbs, in our object language, follow the second pattern of analysis shown: they are compositional and decomposable items and do not have uniform behavior, being part of different verb classes. To this end, we have analyzed 36 Brazilian Portuguese stative verbs, in the light of the Lexical Semantics theoretical-methodological framework.
