| Sumario: | Grounded on the paradigm of Afrocentricity as a way of articulating possible paths and generating understandings based on the lived Afrodiasporic reality, this essay aims to construct reflections and problematizations about the purposeful cultural erasure of black terreiro knowledge. Considering the historical inferiorization of religious traditions of African origin in Brazil, we understand that Afrocentricity provides the opportunity for the idea that we must have a commitment with the (re)discoveries of the plural and subjective African place in society. Under this view, we articulate the epistemology of terreiro with the conception of the vital force of orality, as well as highlight the importance of (self)awareness to defend our ancestral and spiritual values. We also suggest an urgency in valuing the culture of Afro-diasporic peoples as a way of living in communion based on respect, love and freedom. |
