A captura de tubarões é realizada com espinhelde-fundo, em profundidades variando entre 15 e 70 metros, destacando-se as espécies cabeça-chata, Carcharhinus leucas, lombo-preto, C. falciformes, jaguara, Galeocerdo cuvieri, e martelo, Sphirna spp. Os objetivos deste trabalho são descrever a pescaria de tubarões, e determinar o esforço de pesca e abundância de C. leucas através do acompanhamento de cinco viagens totalizando 117 dias de pesca realizadas entre abril de 1996 e março de 1997, na área de abrangência do Golfão Marajoara entre 05°N e 02°S e 51°30’W e 43°00’W. Nesse período foram capturados 847 tubarões, totalizando 33.885 kg de charuto (carcaça sem as vísceras, barbatanas e cabeça). Desses, 485 (57,4%) exemplares foram da espécie C. leucas e 362 (42,6%) distribuídos entre as outras espécies. Foi observada uma maior concentração do esforço de pesca no segundo trimestre, em profundidades de 21 a 60 m, com um deslocamento do mesmo na direção noroeste, acompanhando a isóbata de 50 m.
