Descripción
Sumario:Our objective is to reflect on the phenomenon of people without religion with beliefs in Brazil, exploring the complexity of the definition of the term "without religion" and its relationship with the deinstitutionalization and individualization of belief. We note the diversity of this group, its predominantly young, peripheral, and Christian socioeconomic profile, and the historical-social context that contributes to this reality, including constitutional secularism and the transformations in the Brazilian urban and religious scenarios. Finally, based on quantitative and qualitative data, we present a summary of the theses carried out on the phenomenon of people without religion in Brazil. We conclude by the importance of empirical research and academic dialogues to better understand this complex, heterogeneous, and borderline phenomenon.
