Descripción
Sumario:This article aims to reflect on the phenomenon of violence, focusing on institutional violence and its variant, police violence. To understand the dynamics of this form of violence, it is necessary to analyse the emergence of the modern State, its current (neoliberal) configuration, as well as the relations between social classes and the current regime of capital accumulation. Based on the analysis carried out, it was possible to conclude that violence is a social phenomenon that accompanies the development of human societies. However, with the advent of capitalism, violence became more complex and began to be used as a form of social control. In short, the result of the assessment we have reached is that, to understand this phenomenon, it is necessary to resort to theoretical and methodological tools that go beyond the descriptive and ideological level, as advocates of institutional approaches do and to subject violence to a critical and comprehensive analysis, in order to understand its real determinations.
