| Sumario: | The exclusive membership of the BRICS Forum undoubtedly reinforces individual identity and enhances the international positioning of India. Therefore, China's proposal for a BRICS Plus in 2017 provoked opposition from New Delhi. Beijing insisted on the enlargement proposal at the XIV BRICS Summit in 2022, which was finally incorporated the following year. In this context, we ask how India positioned itself vis-à-vis the expansion proposal. How does the expansion challenge India's foreign policy objectives and its objectives for the Forum itself? Finally, how does New Delhi maintain its identity in the Forum and avoid being eroded by the characteristics of the new members? This paper aims to analyse BRICS enlargement in 2024 as a challenge to India's international identity. |
