Sumario:Architectural diagrams were incorporated into design practice as a synthetic repre- sentation for presenting ideas, at the most varied stages of the design process. These graphic tools have been used for centuries, and their use in the field of architecture and urbanism has gained strength since the last century. With its greater diffusion also came an expansion of methodologies and their arrangements. However, to date, there are few academic productions dedicated to the systematization of its use in the archi- tectural field, especially in the context of the design process. To elucidate this topic, is required to understand the concepts and related themes, from which motivating questions are created: What are diagrams and how can they be applied in the scope of architecture? What are your most common typologies? What are the phases of the architectural design process and which of these each type of diagram best suits? How can diagrams, with their wide formal variety, facilitate the approach to design problems posed, on the most diverse scales? How to systematize its use in order to make it useful for better understanding, analysis and validation of architectural design solutions, at the various stages of the process? Based on these questions, the objec- tive of this work is to elucidate how diagrams can be used in this design process. To this purpose, a systematic review of the bibliography will be carried out with a view to understanding architectural diagrams and other related topics, such as semiotics and hypothetigraphy. Next, the phases of the architectural design process will be outlined and conceptualized. Subsequently, the main characterizations of the most common types of diagrams will be gathered and presented, from which a new classification will be created that places these typologies in association with the phases of the architec- tural project. Finally, a case study will be conducted, for the purpose of understanding a practical application that relates the two main themes of the work. It is expected that the results of this work will provide a better understanding of the typological universe of architectural diagrams, as well as their application in the context of an architectural design process.
