Sumario:Objective: compare the social profile, consumption and knowledge about alimentary supplements among users in the masculine and feminine sex between ages 14-60 in a fitness center down-town and another one of the periphery in a city of the Metropolitan region of Porto Alegre/RS. Method: A questionnaire with 17 objectives questions with multiple choice was applied. Two hundred and twenty three people answered the questionnaire in this research, a hundred twenty two in the periphery fitness center and a hundred one in the down town fitness center. Results: There is no significantly differences about the use of alimentary supplements between both fitness center, presenting the following percentuals 19.80% on down town fitness center and 19.67% periphery’s fitness center. In the down town fitness center 46.54% know a little about alimentary supplements, 80.19% never used alimentary supplements, who used (19.80%), was indication of a friend (25%) and the alimentary supplement most used were the amino acids 57.89%. In the periphery’s fitness center 51.94% know a little about alimentary supplements, 80.33% never used alimentary supplements, who used (19.67%), was indication of a friend (33.33%) and the alimentary supplement most used was the amino acids 50%. Conclusion: there is no significantly differences about the use of alimentary supplements among users in fitness center down town or periphery in a city of the Metropolitan region of Porto Alegre/RS.
