Sumario:This paper sought to analyze the evolution of employment at the micro-regional level for the period from 2003 to 2013 in Brazil, seeking to observe microregional differences in the period marked by a reduction in national unemployment focused mainly on the growth of external sector demand, the demand of lower income groups and public investments in infrastructure and housing. We use the theory of uneven regional economic development as well as empirical evidences observed in the literature. The analysis is based on IBGE data and developed through shift-share method. The results show a reduction in regional inequality, with higher relative growth for the North, Northeast and Midwest regions. The sectors that contributed most to this increase at the national level were trade, services and construction, being important public administration for the North and Northeast regions, as well as the agricultural, logging, hunting and fishing sector for the Midwest region. It can be concluded that the pattern of employment growth may have reduced inequality, but with specialization in both low-dynamic and low-spillover sectors.Keywords: Employment structure.
