Sumario:This dissertation entitled “The traditionality, memory and knowledge of the Coco Babaçu Quebradeiras in the Extractive Reserve of Ciriaco-MA” presents a look at the social representation of babaçu coconut breakers, as well as their memories and traditional knowledge. The objective of this research is to identify the knowledge built by the experience of babassu coconut breakers, and how they are understood, as fundamental elements for the promotion and affirmation of collective identity in communities. However, it is necessary to present the relevant categories such as traditional communities - using as main references Brandão (2015), Almeida (2008) and Godelier (1984) - and collective memory - referenced especially by Ecléa Bosi (1979) and Halbwachs (1968) - in a perception that there is an intrinsic relationship between the knowledge constituted by the babassu coconut breakers. In discussions about the traditional knowledge of coconut breakers I use Anny da Silva Linhares (2016). From a bibliographical study with a qualitative approach, the study brings the task of sharpening a broad view of the social reality in which the research subjects' values and beliefs are on display. The investigation instruments used were the observation in loco (in the Community of Ciriaco – Extractive Reserve of Ciriaco/MA and the semi-structured interview with an activist in the Interstate Movement of Quebradeiras de Coco Babaçu and member of the advisory of MIQCB, Rosalva Silva Gomes. As a result. relevant to this research, we found knowledge related to the valorization of the babassu coconut; collective memory and traditionality; music and beliefs; and sustainable knowledge. Also as a result of the field research, an e-book was built with the title: “Traditionality and knowledge of the babassu coconut breakers”, which identifies how the coconut breakers define themselves as a traditional community, and highlight their knowledge. In the final parts, the understanding of the traditional knowledge of the coconut breakers was considered a great gain in this study, that brought discoveries and abstract meanings.
