| Sumario: | The birth of a premature baby, and its subsequent loss can generate in the parents’ feelings of anguish and impotence in the face of this loss. This study aimed to investigate the difficulties encountered in the process of maternal mourning and the psychological resources used by bereaved mothers to confront the process. This is a qualitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study with multiple case studies. A semi-structured interview was used, in which two women who experienced the loss of their preterm infants up to 30 days of life participated. Data analysis was based on content analysis. The results presented indicate that the experience of mourning in the circumstances given due to the loss is a significant process, and despite the suffering, both participants could elaborate their mourning from their internal resources, as well as family support and psychological treatment. |
