Descripción
Sumario:Introduction: Burnout in students consists of three dimensions: 1) emotional exhaustion, a feeling of exhaus-tion due to the demands of the study; 2) disbelief, cynical and distanced attitude towards the study; and 3) professional ineffectiveness, perception of incompetence as a student. Personality factors are predictors of bur-nout, which correspond to the Big Five: extroversion, kindness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience. Each of these factors leads to differences in behavior among individuals. Objective: To analyze the influence of personality factors on burnout in a sample of medical students. Method: This is cross-sectio-nal observational research that uses an adapted questionnaire from the Personality Inventory (IPIP) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Student Survey (MBI-SS). Results: 298 students from the 1st to the 9th period of the Medicine course at a private college were included. Neuroticism was the most associated personality factor with the three dimensions of burnout, with significant bivariate Spearman correlation coefficients. Conclusion:Personality traits can play an important role in the development of burnout symptoms in students.
