Sumario:The purpose of this paper is to offer an interpretation of the Sappho Voigt fragment 31 which supports a new Brazilian translation. We think that the poem does indeed reveal Sappho as a strong, free woman with a deliberate intention to describe her own sexual ecstasy and, with that, create her own history and fame. She was able to make her own happiness. Our translation tries to present this idea.
