Sumario:Abstract:  This study aimed to assess the efficiency of biological nitrogen fixation in Lotus uliginosus and Adesmia latifolia cultivated in irrigated rice soil. Two experiments were conducted in a greenhouse at Lages Experimental Station of EPAGRI. In experiment 1, L. uliginosus cv. SCS313 Serrano was inoculated with rhizobia strains EEL13702, EEL8Ce1 and EEL4284 and in experiment 2, Adesmia latifolia was inoculated with rhizobia strains EEL1811, EEL3111 and Semia 6438. Number and dry weight of root nodules were evaluated together with dry biomass and nitrogen accumulation in plant shoots. In addition, a field experiment was conducted in an irrigated rice soil to evaluate the symbiotic efficiency in L. uliginosus inoculated with the same rhizobia strains tested in the greenhouse. The results indicate the existence of native rhizobia strains of nodular capability in irrigated rice soil in the region of Alto Vale do Itajaí in both plant species evaluated. L. uliginosus showed adaptability and forage production potential in irrigated rice soil conditions.
