Descripción
Sumario:Between 1990 and 1995 there was a substantial improvment in the inequlity of the Brazilian income distribution. While the income of the richest 10% increased by less than 10%; the income from the poorest rose by almost 30%. This paper tries investigate the determinants of such improvment. Among the several factors analyzed, the trade liberalization seems to be the more important. This opening of the economy incresed net exports of goods that use relatively unqualified work and net imports of goods that use relatively qualified work. Those changes in relative demands could cause the observed changes in relative wages.
