Descrição
Resumo:This research originates from the recognition of numerous gaps in the understanding of Boa Esperança Farm, a heritage-listed property built at the end of the 18th century. These gaps have spurred the development of methods to address various spatial and character-related voids that have not yet been explored by historiography, through searches in archives and multiple sources. The research predominantly focuses on the common and work spaces, and on reclaiming the history of enslaved workers. From the findings, interpretations are formulated through multidisciplinary cross-references, both among the facts themselves and with other external factors, creating a more comprehensive understanding of the Farm. The use of computational tools for representation and visualization in architecture and urbanism is a key aspect throughout the research, aiding in the construction of visual hypotheses, models, and images that bring together the factual discoveries. The research has yielded transcriptions of historical documents, a collection of newspaper clippings, a compilation of 3D digitizations, models, and images, thus expanding the discussion on less explored themes related to Boa Esperança. Stories of enslaved workers are presented based on their identification in multiple sources. It closes with the presentation of a virtual reality prototype designed to integrate different types of information about Boa Esperança Farm. The conclusion of the work points to new research based on the findings presented since little has been studied about the enslaved and the work at Boa Esperança.
