Descripción
Sumario:The article analyzes the rise of neoconservatism and neofascism in Brazilian politics, focusing on the role of Neopentecostal churches in creating the political ideology of being "economically liberal and socially conservative." Using a hermeneutic approach, it references the speeches of Jair Bolsonaro and Edir Macedo, analyzing them through discourse analysis techniques. The theoretical framework covers the origins of neoconservatism and Neopentecostalism in Brazil, as well as addressing some elements of contemporary fascism through the classic characterization by Umberto Eco. It is found that the convergence between Neopentecostal religious denominations and conservative political groups has contributed to the consolidation of typically fascist ideas and worldviews, whose effects have significant deleterious potential on democracy and its institutions.
