| Sumario: | The fluoridation of the public water supply has been demonstrated to be one of the most successful measures in public health history. However, the effectiveness of this method depends on the maintenance of adequated levels of fluoride and its continuity. This study evaluated fluoride levels in the public water supply in Cachoeira do Sul - RS, for a period of 12 months. The samples had been collected monthly in different points of the city and in public water treatment stations. Fluoride analysis used an electrometric method. The results demonstrated an oscillation in the fluoride concentration and it varied from 0,40 to 1,00 ppmF/L. The fluoride concentration medium was 0,66ppmF/L and the median was 0,66 ppmF/L. Of the 104 collected samples, 66 (63,4%) presented adequated fluoride concentration (between 0,6 and 0,9 ppmF/L) and 38 (36,6%) inadequated levels. Fluoride concentration oscillation in the public water supply of Cachoeira do Sul was observed, and this fluctuation can intervene in the benefits of fluoridation. |
