Descripción
Sumario:This article addresses the social movement of indigenous people and quilombolas in relation to the defence of and access to rights, particularly within the scope of public policies in rural Amazonian areas, with an emphasis on Social Assistance. The field of reference is the region of the Sateré-Mawé and the quilombola land along the extent of the Andirá River, a rural area in the municipality of Barreirinha, in the Lower Amazon sub-region. In dialogue with leaders, it was found that along the Andirá River, demands for land and territory remain central issues, linked to other struggles focused on public policies regarding the ethnic-racial issue. In the case of Social Assistance, there is still a gap between the “legal” and the “real”, which is why a policy that concretely considers the “Amazonian factor” is being called for, based on the relationships and social conditions of the people, which will certainly require more public participation.
