Sumario:The proposal of this brief article is to discuss the position occupied by João Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967) inside the brazilian literary historiography, just as to examine some of the mechanisms of canonization that, in spite of the intrinsec value of the literary object itself, brought up Rosa´s opus to a level shared by few creators. Still, it proposes, a revisal of that canonic statute, able to comprise Rosa´s scripture not like an alien element with regard to the literary tradition, but as a participant of a large spatial-temporal scenery, in wich the writer found its roots and from where he extracts his aesthetic means.
